I come from a family of pickers. My adopted grandparents were staples of the old Dreamland Flea Market (pictured above), where Lowes in Asheville now sits. After the drive-in Dreamland Theatre closed, it became a bustling flea market from the 70’s to mid-90’s. Blaine and Jeanette had a permanent space, and we kids would wander free-range throughout the flea market under the old movie screen all day looking at the pets, airbrushed license plates and T-shirts, rusty tools, and unwanted toys for sale. Our little flea market at the Country Peddler on Saturday, June 7th isn’t nearly as big as Dreamland but will host some folks cleaning out their garages and basements along with a few vendors who make crafts, as well. I hope you’ll come join us, shop, and feel a sense of our good community. In case of rain, we’ll postpone it to June 14th. There are still spaces available, so email or call the store to save a spot; it’s $5 and bring-your-own-table and/or canopy.
Honoring Jeaneen
Last Monday, Jeaneen was recognized by the town council for her many years of dedicated service in the Campobello community! Jeaneen, the Peddler, and her work here has been a blessing to our town for 30 years.
Family Fun Day is Saturday, May 3rd, and takes place on the lawn outside the County School District Office, on 176. Come out and have fun, and if you’re a vendor, there are still some spaces available! Contact Town Hall.
We are working to bring you custom Campobello products, like coffee mugs, camping cups, and T-shirts! Campobello is the nicest place I know.
Many of you know Maxine already from Maxine’s Country at Heart Christmas Shop; she now has a display in the back hallway of the Peddler! In addition to her regular holiday offerings, Maxine blesses our community by making beautiful cemetery flowers.
